No-Public-Education View Unpopular with Christians

By Nena Arias

If we have so many churches in America with a high percentage of regular attendees, twenty-four hour a day Christian radio and television programming, so many Bible bookstores with a myriad of versions of the Bible, thousands of instruction books and devotionals on how to live a good Christian life, so much wonderful praise and worship music, then why is the nation in such spiritual, political, educational and moral decay? What is wrong with that picture? Something just isn’t adding up.

One of the main reasons for America’s moral decline is that the majority of Christian parents are derelict in their duties as parents to educate their children in the wisdom of God for all areas of life as the Scriptures instruct (Deuteronomy 4:9, 6:1-9; Psalm 78:5-8; Proverbs 22:6; Ephesians 6:9). They are still sending their children to government-run public schools in spite of the liberal, godless indoctrination their children receive at least 6 hours a day, five days a week as compared to roughly one hour a week in church if they are regular church goers.

The gamut of excuses, reasons and justifications for why Christians continue to send their children to public schools knowing full well of the aggressive assault to their spiritual values and their children’s tender impressionable minds is appalling to me. The majority of Christians don’t even want to consider the possibility of pulling their children out from public schools. They just won’t have it. They are so used to unloading their children on others that even the thought of them taking on the responsibility they already have before God is inconceivable. Dumping their kids off for others to educate, form and entertain is so convenient and engrained in their thinking that “free” education is the only way to do this. Never mind that this “free” educational (indoctrination) system has the audacity to teach sex education from their godless perspective to children even as young as kindergarten, at times without the parents consent. Abstinence is taboo, out of the picture. Sex education in the public schools now includes presenting homosexuality as a completely “normal” and acceptable lifestyle. This is done under the guise of “people should not be judged because of whom they love they couldn’t help it if they were ‘born’ that way”. Never mind that there is no scientific fact to support that statement. So we are now beginning to hear about children of both sexes even as young as 4, 5 and 6 year olds on up to pre-teens and teens who want to change their sexual gender because they feel trapped in the wrong body. And, get this, in many cases; they are being fully supported by their parents. What moral footing gave the schools permission to invade the privacy of our children’s minds to plant these ideas into their head? How is a highly sexualized culture affecting us?

It is time to wake up, folks. At the very least, do your homework to know what our children are being taught. Accept once and for all that the public school system is not going to get better only worse because it is a failed concept from the outset. Surrendering your children to be taught by others is wrong! In the public school system parents have no say in determining the curricula their children are being taught. It is out of their control.

Another atrocity happening in the public schools is Common Core. I challenge you to look into this and be horrified. An excellent website and resource to learn about Common Core is: www.eagleforum.org Just put “Common Core” in the Search bar.

Totalitarianism is where we are headed and we know what history reveals about the outcome. When people reject God’s design for life in all areas, they are constructing their own prison where they will be enslaved by their own doing. There is still time, it is not too late to turn all of this around with God’s help and our decisive actions.

Godly parents are to be providers for their family “But if anyone does not provide for his relatives, and especially for members of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever. (1 Timothy 5:8). This is not only in reference to material things but spiritual matters as well. The responsibility we accept when we become parents is for the entire well-being of our children in spirit, mind and body.

Since the economy seems to be all people think about, one of the first “justifiable” arguments that fall out of people’s mouth regarding to their children’s education is:

“We can’t afford to send our kids to private schools.”

As a homeschooling mom, I can tell you that the best option is the biblical option, which is homeschooling. There is excellent Internet educational curricula available on any subject with teacher’s keys to make it easy on the parent or instructor. Your child can be educated far superior than any of his peers in public school. You don’t need accreditation if your child can pass a college entrance exam. More and more, colleges and universities are coveting homeschoolers because of their self-discipline formation, their great study habits and how they excel above conventional public school graduates. As parents, especially Christian parents, we need to stop worshiping at the altar of the almighty dollar and stop sacrificing our children there. Churches need to offer an alternative to godless public school education and open up their facilities as a ministry to young families. It is time to rescue our children at all school levels from the clutches of the evil ones who want our children at any cost to justify the lining of their pockets and produce more children of the devil with their “Christian” parents’ permission while they are at it.

I believe Christians hold the key in turning this nation around in no time at all just by pulling their children out of the public education system and then demand to be exempted from paying taxes that fund this “bottomless pit” that consumes so much money and only gets worse at what it is supposed to excel in. In a free society we should have the opportunity to opt out and accept our responsibility to see to our children’s education and do a much better job at it since no one is more interested in a high quality education for our children than us parents.

In America, we have been trying to “save” the public schools for over 50 years. And the more money we throw at it the worse it gets. According to the Department of Labor Statistics, the average public school teacher’s salary is $43,000 a year for 9 months of work with a couple of months paid vacation and lots of wonderful benefits to boot. This has attracted many so-called teachers who should not be there because the vocation is not in their hearts. They just want the security the job affords.

For parents, pulling their children out of the public school system may mean some sacrifices, but if we don’t do it for our children, who will? Perhaps we have to drive an older model car, have a smaller house and forego expensive or regular vacations. So what? Are our children not worth it? There are countless ways to cut down our expenses in order to meet priorities. We can start a home family business and even involve the children. That way we can have extra income and still be on hand to educate our children.

The public school system will only get worse because it is not God’s way to properly educate children. Furthermore, they are not neutral zones; there is no such thing. Neutrality does not exist. Their religion is humanism. If we don’t want our children indoctrinated in false religion, practices of evil and taught to hate the God of the Bible and His ways, does it make sense then to entrust them in the hands of those who are directly opposed to the true Christian worldview and use our money to pay for it? Think about it!

Another lame excuse or reason Christian parents continue to send their children to public schools is because they say:

“Our children have the opportunity to shine for Jesus and be witnesses.”

You think? With what tools exactly? Do we really believe the half-baked attempt at a condensed Bible story for twenty minutes of a one-hour Sunday school class which has to be divided with time for games and treats will cut it when our children are being taught in school that the Bible is a book of fables and that they really evolved from animals? How much time do we dedicate at home to instruct our children in the meat of the Word of God and to make them reason out their faith so they know what they believe and why they believe it. Open your eyes! Our children are no more equipped to be witnesses in the public school system than I am ready to be an astronaut.

The public school system is the devil’s workshop to steal our children from the path of following God. The Word of God has the answer to the excellent education our children deserve and should be receiving along with our efforts as parents. It’s time to make up our mind to stop being derelict in our parental duties making it easy for the devil to devour our children.

“…these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise. You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates”, Deuteronomy 6:6-9.

“Only take care, and keep your soul diligently, …These things that I command you today, make them known to your children and your children’s children”, Deuteronomy 4:9.
