What is the Status of Motherhood in America?

The institution of the family is the cornerstone of civilization. The family is our first exposure to the world. What we learn there, especially in our formative years, will be with us for the rest of our lives. “Train up a child in the way he should go even when he is old he will not depart from it.” (Proverbs 22:6)

From the very beginning of this country there were families aboard the Mayflower in 1620. These were families committed to faith and fruitfulness God’s way. This is one proof of their original intent to come and colonize to make this new land their permanent home.  That’s the way it was thereafter. Up until approximately six decades ago, the family was held in high esteem in word and deed in the United States of America. All that has drastically changed; now it has just become lip service to the institution of family. It hurts to admit that when we talk about the family, America is unrecognizable. Something I never thought I would see in my lifetime.

The miracle of procreation and the role mother’s play in the human chain is indescribable. Only women can carry in the womb an eternal human being that is created in the image of God. The miracle of the process of delivery, once the nine months have transpired, goes beyond words. This establishes motherhood and it is a true miracle! It matters not how creative human scientists may get in their efforts to redefine the sexes, they will never succeed at making a man conceive and give birth. The womb is the gift of God to women. In God’s order, the role of wife and mother is a very high calling and mission in life. A woman who takes her motherhood seriously has a pretty good idea of what selfless love, courage, and persistence are all about.

In America, because of its Christian foundation that clearly teaches that men and women are created equal, women have been raised morally and intellectually to the level of men. This is in direct contrast to how women are seen and treated in other nations.

However, we must acknowledge that over a hundred years ago a war on motherhood was declared. In America, women were a solid building block in the stability of its culture and society because they took their domestic life, womanhood and motherhood as their meaningful calling in life. But this birthright was sold for a pittance. The legacy of the 20th Century has been the fiercest war on women and motherhood that this country has ever seen. The sinister Feminist Movement crept into America under the guise of liberating women and created much dissatisfaction in women making them believe that they were being short-changed just by being members of the feminine gender let alone if they were “just stay-at-home” moms. All this coupled with the strengthening Marxist agenda in America and liberal humanism that crept into Christianity, this dealt women a double whammy blow at losing their footing on their all-important God-given vocation. The warped view of women embraced by the 20th and the 21st Century man has greatly contributed to the demise of motherhood in America.

It is no secret the Marxists have made it their goal in America to target and destroy the institution of the family and dilute it from its biblical foundation because it stands in the way of their agenda. We must admit their persistence has paid off. They have managed to blur the lines between men and women to sell the lie that there is no difference. They have managed to create dissatisfaction in women to accept who they were created to be. This has caused a radical decline in the birthrate, the murder of babies in the mother’s womb known as abortion, fatherless families, and social confusion.

After women tasted work away from the home during and after WWII a very significant exodus from the home happened and the United States has never been the same since. Motherhood went on the decline and for the first time in the West, more mothers left their homes than stayed in them. The home was redefined and the results have been disastrous. Life has changed and affected the course of the nation. If not reversed it will be the demise of America as it has been in all other civilizations of the past that have fallen.

America’s glory was her woman. As seen through the eyes of outsiders such as Alexis de Tocqueville when he wrote:

As for myself, I do not hesitate to avow that although the women of the United States are confined within the narrow circle of domestic life, and their situation is in some respects one of extreme dependence, I have nowhere seen woman occupying a loftier position…I have spoken of so many important things done by the Americans, to what the singular prosperity and growing strength of that people ought mainly to be attributed, I should reply: To the superiority of their women.”

In my view, the greatest contributing factor in so much loss of the building block of motherhood in our society has been losing sight of God’s design for it, shunning it and thinking that humans know best on how to improve it. Other factors like trends, evolution, feminism, and the state takeover of the family, willingly handed over by parents, has contributed to the confusion we now face as a society. The atheistic communists anticipated the death of the Christian family as stated in their 45 declared goals for the takeover of America presented to Congress in 1963 (http://rense.com/general32/americ.htm)

The communists debased motherhood and domestic life in relation to women with comments like the following from Vladimir Lenin, “…women are placed in the humiliating position felt particularly in day-to-day family life…housework is the most unproductive, the most barbarous and the most arduous work woman can do. It is exceptionally petty and does not include anything that would in any way promote the development of the woman…The building of socialism will begin only when we have achieved the complete equality of women and when we undertake the new work together with women who have been emancipated from that petty stultifying, unproductive work…institutions that liberate women from their position as household slaves are springing up…Our task is to make politics available to every working woman.” (This was spoken in 1920 in Lenin’s speech for the International Working Women’s Day.)

The notion of freeing women from the dominance of men and the household appealed to women in America and the rest is history. The “new family” was born. This meant adopting methods of birth control to deliver women from childbirth and childcare. Since then, children are described as burdensome and motherhood has become a prison for women and both parents for that matter. This tactic is very similar to the dissatisfaction that Satan, the old serpent, tempted Adam and Eve to “free” them from God’s oppressive dominance over them.

I have good news! God’s designs are not easily defeated and eventually always claim their rightful place. The atheistic communists and Marxists would have to redesign the human race with a seared conscience to eradicate the image of God in us. I want to see them succeed at that goal!

Woman will always continue to perpetuate civilizations and with God’s help will continue to define it through the image of God in them that speaks to the spirit of what is right and what is wrong. Women are coming back into the home even after having gone off to college and earned impressive degrees and were successfully earning six figure incomes because their divine calling of motherhood is calling them back home. They are opting to home school their children because they want to be the ones to form their children’s character and values. Women will once again respect who they were created to be and not seek to be men in women’s bodies any longer. They will not bite into the lie that they have to sell themselves cheaply to prove their worth. With God’s help we will help to defeat the onslaught of life in the womb and life will be precious again in everyone’s eyes. I say praise God for that!

Men are also beginning to resent that their place in all of society is under attack. Especially with the latest development that women will now be soldiers heading into combat while they are stay-at-home dads left to change diapers. The male design God’s way is also telling them this is not right. Men know in their heart that they have lost something very precious to their original design, their manhood. They have lost their ability to lead in all areas and will begin to reclaim it.

The Church must teach this more vigorously. Motherhood God’s way will prevail! Happy Mother’s Day!
