The Root Cause of Suicides in America
Ramon Arias | July 17, 2017“and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” John 8:32 (ESV)
The increase of suicides in America is rapidly rising. They include people of all ages who apparently don’t know how to cope with life. Those who commit suicide think it is the only alternative to end their problems. Most families, civil government, and social institutions, for the most part, have a sense of impotence.
USA Today published an article that caught my attention. The title is “America sees alarming spike in middle school suicide rate.” I selected the following paragraphs that give us a glimpse into the problem:
America is experiencing a striking rise in suicide among middle school students…
"It’s alarming. We’re even getting cases involving 8- and 9-year olds,” said Clark Flatt, who started the Jason Foundation in Tennessee 20 years ago to help educate teachers about teen suicide after his 16-year-old son took his own life. “It’s scary. This isn’t an emerging problem – it’s here.”
Researchers, educators and psychologists say several factors — increased pressure on students to achieve academically, more economic uncertainty, increased fear of terrorism and social media — are behind the rise in suicides among the young. …
Social media has also been behind the spread of dangerous phenomenons like the Blue Whale Challenge, which is recently rumored to have encouraged a handful of suicides of young people around the world. The game asks players to attempt daily tasks that include everything from watching horror films to self-mutilation. The parents of a 15-year-old Texas boy said this week that their son was participating in the challenge when he was found hanging in his closet, his cell phone propped up so it could broadcast his death.
There is so much pressure on young people they can become overwhelmed because they haven’t yet developed the coping skills adults rely on. Something an adult easily dismisses because of a lifetime of experience can be hard for a middle schooler to shrug off.

The “experts” point out several contributing factors, while their assessment is partially accurate, they overlook, ignore or deny the real cause of those factors. Here is why: we should ask ourselves, what role does evolution play in human behavior? The humanists, who control public education, use their secular textbooks to indoctrinate children and youth emphatically affirming that the universe, earth and all that is in them came from nothing. They also affirm that humans evolved from animal life and that there is nothing after physical death. If evolution belief is irrefutable, as the defenders tell us, then where are the irrefutable facts? This poses some questions that demand answers. For instance, what meaning does life have in the evolution mindset? Why grow up to be like adults that waste their life in superficial and meaningless endeavors? Since life is meaningless, purposeless and completely out of our control in the world of evolution, why hope for anything? It makes absolutely no sense to look forward to anything. What do we work, live and die for if humans are in the process of evolving into who knows what, only to end in nothing?
Our children and youth are indoctrinated in public schools, in most homes, in social life, and through the relentlessness of the media, that life has no value and that God is a fairytale. The increase of the culture of death is reinforcing the mind of children, youth, and adults into believing that life is worthless.
Cultural and national suicide is the loss of moral absolutes as revealed in God’s Word; the more a society rejects them, the deeper they plunge into hopelessness.
Every church and Christian home must educate in the biblical worldview. The Bible is the only reliable source that reveals the origin of the universe and life. It is in the Bible that we learn the accurate explanation of how, when and why God, our Creator, brought all things into existence. We also learn what caused all human misery, inner emptiness, and obsession with the destruction of others and the planet. And that is not all; it also reveals the way out of the cycle of self-destruction. The first 11 chapters of Genesis are the most important in the Bible and understanding them opens our minds to the rest of the Scriptures where we find the blueprint on how to build our lives and society.
America has only one way not only to solve the suicide rate crisis but all the problems created by humans because they lack knowledge of God and Jesus Christ. The greatest obstacle to accepting the simple solution offered to us is unbelief. Every person is special, and God extends His love to those who accept His terms for our life’s purpose and meaning. The choice is up to every individual to accept or reject such a marvelous and compelling offer.
In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth…. Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” Genesis 1:1, 26 (ESV)
Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. John 14:6 (ESV)
Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life. 1 John 5:12 (ESV)
